The first Mexican ceramics of domestic use date from the formative period or pre-classic ( 1500-300 B.C.E.) in the valley of Mexico. From the inferior pre-classic ( to the 1300 B.C.E.) funerary oblations and little figurines modeled with pastillage's technique appear. In the half a pre-classic ( 1300-800 B.C.E.) are created the so-called beautiful women, as those of Tlatilco whose feminine exaggerated features remit us to agricultural rites with propitiatory offerings. In the Occident of Mexico, the utilitarian ceramics, of polished clay of brown-colored black show stylized forms, while in the ornamental they highlight the geometric decorations and black colors, cream and red. Domestic scenes and characteristic characters are depicted that demonstrate the differentiation of the social classes. The anthropomorphous little figures, that at first were flattened, begin to be hollow and they acquire bigger dimensions until arriving to the portraits of Nayarit and the extraordinary dogs of Colima. The smiling attitude of the thick characters from Colima remembers, for its physiognomy, Henry Moore's sculptural work. In the coast of Gulf of Mexico the Olmecan culture carried out in the half and superior pre-classic, naturalistic hollow statuettes, as the weeping children (baby face) that present cranial deformation, swollen lids, ripped eyes, gums without teeth and, in occasions, a sort of wrought helmet. Teotihuacán's culture gets a firm hold in the transition of the superior pre-classic to the classical period ( 200 B.C.E.- 700 A.C.E.) at the central plateau. There mud braziers were made, masks with trapezial form, vessels tripods with decorations to the temper, bas-reliefs, cloisonné and champlevé. Here stands out the use of clay called 'fine orange' that it is thin and it demands high temperatures in the cooking.
